The Philadelphia Eagles won again in Week 4, edging out the Washington Commanders in overtime during a hard-fought 34-31 win. It probably shouldn’t have been that close, but we were playing on a short week. At the end of the day, a win’s a win.

Right now, the San Francisco 49ers are the only other 4-0 team in the NFL. That means we have a better record than 30 other teams, and after making the Super Bowl last year we’ve earned the right to be favored in pretty much any circumstance.

Even on the road against the last team to win the NFC before us (the Los Angeles Rams)? Absolutely.

Eagles vs Rams Opening Odds Week 5

A lot has changed for the Rams since they won it all at the beginning of 2022. They crashed hard last year due to injuries (5-12) and are off to an okay start in 2023, going 2-2 despite not having Cooper Kupp and being on the road for three of their first four games.

That said, there’s not much reason to fear LA this year. The Rams’ blowout win over the Seattle Seahawks in Week 1 was impressive, but since then they’ve lost to the 49ers at home (their only home game so far) and a Cincinnati Bengals team that clearly isn’t right. They barely beat the Indianapolis Colts last week in overtime, so they’re just not really that formidable.

Matthew Stafford looks like a shell of his former self, too, with a 62.0% completion rate and nearly twice as many interceptions (5) as touchdowns (3).

That means our defense will be in a good spot to capitalize on some turnovers this week, especially if Los Angeles falls behind early and Stafford starts letting it fly. Kupp’s potential return is an interesting wrinkle, but he probably won’t be much of a factor after not playing in nearly a year.

Meanwhile, Jalen Hurts is coming off his best game of the season, as is A.J. Brown. It took a few weeks to warm up, but the offense is finally firing on all cylinders, and an aging Stafford simply won’t be able to keep up.

The Eagles are already favored in this game, but it should probably be closer to a touchdown. The Rams are the past and we are the present, and that will become even more obvious on Sunday.
