All Signs Point to Sixers Making Big Jimmy Butler Mistake
The Philadelphia 76ers are in need of a massive overturn on the roster this offseason. The only two mainstays on the roster going into the 2024-25 season are Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey.
Outside of that, president of basketball operations Daryl Morey will have his hands full this offseason.
The 76ers have been linked to players like Paul George and Zach LaVine but those options don't seem too likely.
The Ringer dropped an article discussing the landscape of the NBA this summer. They released some interesting nuggets and a specific one was about Jimmy Butler.
76ers News: Jimmy Butler May Be Moved This Summer
Howard Beck of the Ringer revealed that Jimmy Butler has been on the trade block for months.
"Jimmy Butler will be traded. Rival executives have been buzzing about it for months, for all the obvious reasons. Butler is about to turn 35 (with a lot of hard miles and a lot of injuries), with one year left on his Heat contract, and is reportedly seeking a two-year, $113 million extension. If the Heat grant it, they’ll have little to no flexibility to add another star. And they absolutely need one."

Beck then added, "Pat Riley is known for moving off his high-priced players before they fall off a cliff. And Butler at this stage would be much more valuable as a second or third option on a contender than as the top dog in Miami."
This may sound tempting to Philly but they should stir clear of Butler. He will be turning 35 years old in September and is seeking a massive extension.
This past April, Butler suffered a sprained MCL, which caused him to miss the first-round series against the Boston Celtics.
Over the past five years with Miami, Butler has failed to play more than 64 games in any season due to a variety of injuries and ailments.
With Embiid constantly dealing with injuries, it wouldn't be wise to add a player who is battling those same things.
Philly would be smart to add multiple role players this offseason like a Kentavious Caldwell-Pope or Klay Thompson. They should surround Embiid and Maxey with sharpshooters who can also play stout defense.
I know Butler has a history with Philly and Embiid after playing in the city of Brotherly Love in the 2017-2018 season but they shouldn't rekindle that relationship.
Regardless of everything that I've said, there is a good chance that Philly inquiries on Butler. If they actually do, that'll be bad news going for the organization.
