The Philadelphia Phillies are back in the NLDS, and they have starter Aaron Nola to partially thank for that. The former All-Star stepped up in a massive way on Wednesday to help the Phillies advance past the Wild Card Round, throwing 7 scoreless innings to send the Miami Marlins packing.
After that dominant performance, Nola had a surprise announcement for fans.
Aaron Nola News
The pitcher and his wife, Hunter, decided to celebrate the win by revealing that they are expecting their first child together. Hunter posted on Instagram a picture of the two holding a child-sized denim jacket that says "Nola" and "Daddy" on the back. She captioned it, "Our biggest blessing is along for the postseason ride! Baby Nola" with a heart emoji.
The righty's performance combined with the baby reveal will certainly make this a night the entire Nola family never forgets.
The veteran righty was on fire as soon as he took the mound Wednesday night. He kept the Marlins' hitters frustrated the entire evening, only surrendering 3 total hits across his 7 frames. With just 1 walk allowed, too, Nola made things as difficult as possible for Miami.
Meanwhile, Nola's teammates gave him all the run support he could ask for. Philadelphia racked up all 7 of its runs while he was in the game, allowing him to aggressively attack Miami's lineup with strikes.
Hopefully Nola's Wild Card performance carries over into the rest of the postseason and his family has even more to celebrate in the coming weeks.
