The Eagles had issues all throughout the secondary in 2023 and that included their play at safety. They added Kevin Byard in a trade with the Tennessee Titans at the deadline which they hoped would remedy their issues. Unfortunatley, they continued to struggle and when the season ended, they parted ways with Byard.

Philadelphia did add another safety shortly after this, coming to terms with C.J. Gardner-Johnson. As a member of their 2022 roster that made it to the Super Bowl, Gardner'-Johnson will be welcomed back with open arms. He's also going to be happy to be back on the field following an injury-plagued 2023 campaign with the Detroit Lions.

As much as he will help, CGJ is seen as more of a slot corner than a true safety. That's why the Eagles would be doing themselves a favor by signing someone such as Justin Simmons. The eight-year veteran has experience with Vic Fangio which led to a narrative that the two could reunite.

Unfortunately, Benjamin Albright threw some cold water on the idea saying he doesn't believe that will happen. Then again, he also adamantly denied the Cleveland Browns would get Deshaun Watson and grew irritated with the question before being proven wrong.

That doesn't mean Simmons will come to Philadelphia, but he would be a great addition — and they should try and make it happen.
