5. Will Grier, Quarterback

Will Grier was an interesting prospect when he entered the NFL in 2019. The 100th overall pick out of West Virginia, he was originally the backup to Cam Newton. As Newton dealt with shoulder issues that year, Grier was able to start two games.

He struggled in those appearances with 228 yards while completing just 53.8 percent of his attempts. Even worse, he had no touchdowns and four picks as the Panthers were 0-2 with him under center.

Grier spent the next couple of seasons inactive and was released in 2021 when Sam Darnold was added in a trade with the New York Jets. Grier was claimed by the Dallas Cowboys, where he spent the next two seasons of his career.

He was inactive for both years despite putting up some impressive preseason peformances. Grier was never able to unseat Cooper Rush as QB2 and that ultimately led to his release in 2023. From there, it was a bit of a whirlwind for him.

Grier was signed by the Cincinnati Bengals who had him on their practice squad. The New England Patriots signed him off that squad in September but waived him in November and added him to their practice squad. A few weeks later, the L.A. Chargers came calling and he finished the year with them.

This offseason, Grier signed with the Eagles which is the sixth NFL franchise he's been a part of. Still, the only regular-season appearance he's made was as a rookie and that could remain the case since he's a candidate to be released before Week 1.
