Steve Spagnuolo

Another direction the Eagles can go is targeting coordinators currently employed in the league. Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnulo immediately comes to mind.

Spagnuolo failed in his previous attempt as a head coach, leading the St. Louis Rams to a 10-38 record between 2009 and 2011. Since then, however, he has been able to rebuild his reputation and has now established himself as one of the greatest defensive minds in football. He is the only coordinator in NFL history to win a Super Bowl with two different franchises.

Since 2019, Spags has been working under Andy Reid in Kansas City. He has been consistently putting together elite defensive units. Last year, the Chiefs finished second in the league both in terms of yardage and points. His defenses have a tendency to improve throughout the season and be the best unit in the league once the playoffs come around.

The Eagles need a major improvement on the defensive side of the football. Spagnuolo would have a chance to completely revamp the defensive unit in Philadelphia.

One big issue here is the fact that he is not going to leave Kansas City mid-season while they are attempting a historic three-peat. The Eagles would need to hire an interim in the meantime and target Spagnuolo in the 2025 offseason.

Bobby Slowik

If the Eagles want to go for a first-time head coach route, Bobby Slowik should be near the top of their list. An offensive coordinator with the Houston Texans since the 2023 offseason, Slowik is considered one of the best up-and-coming coaches in the league.

Slowik spent four seasons under Kyle Shanahan in San Francisco before being hired as DeMeco Ryans' offensive coordinator. Houston's offense which was the 31st-ranked unit in the league before he got there, finished as the 12th-best offense in 2023. They are off to a hot start once again this season.

As the 49ers' offensive passing game coordinator, he was also a part of consistently elite offenses. So, he will almost certainly get a head coaching gig in the NFL and the Eagles could be the team to give him that opportunity.

Similarly to Spagnuolo, he will not leave his team mid-season. The Eagles would make one of the coordinators the interim head coach if they were to fire Sirianni and hire Slowik in the offseason.
