Bill Belichick

This is probably the most obvious name on everybody's mind. When Belichick parted ways with the Patriots after 24 years, there was already some speculation that he would be a candidate for the Eagles job.

On paper, this made sense. The Eagles are Super Bowl contenders. Belichick wants a team he can win right now with and become the all-time winningest coach in NFL history. This roster needs a disciplinarian who can perfect the execution.

Instead, the Eagles wanted to give Sirianni another season in charge. However, Belichick is still on the sidelines waiting for his next opportunity. He is spending the year as a member of the media, keeping a close tab on the league. If things go south during the season, the 72-year-old will be ready to take over.

Pete Carroll

Another all-time great waiting for his next NFL opportunity is Pete Carroll. Super Bowl-winning head coach with the Seattle Seahawks parted ways after 13 years. He is currently in an advisory role in the organization.

At age 73, Carroll would be one of the oldest head coaches ever if he returned to the league. It also means that he wouldn't have too many years left. He would likely be seen as more of a short-term hire.

But that is fine. The Eagles are ready to win now and are already all-in, having dished out massive contract extensions this spring. Carroll is the type of head coach who can get the most out of this veteran group in Philadelphia. In his last 11 seasons with the Seahawks, he had only one losing season, demonstrating his consistent ability to put together winning teams despite a lack of overwhelmingly strong rosters.
