The Philadelphia Eagles have no shortage of needs this offseason. If this team has any hopes of remaining competitive under Nick Sirianni, the roster needs a shakeup.

But there's only so much magic that GM Howie Roseman can spin. He spent the last couple of offseasons structuring contracts in a "win-now" type of way, and that push is starting to come back to haunt him.

These three contracts are going to be huge obstacles for the Eagles to overcome this offseason.

1. James Bradberry

Year

Cap Hit

Dead Money

2024

$4,885,000

$17,238,000

2025

$8,249,000

$12,503,000

James Bradberry is the poster child of why there's downside to deferring cap hits with "void years" on contracts. That removes basically all of your wiggle room to get out of a bad deal.

You don't need me to go in-depth about why Bradberry doesn't deserve a place in the Eagles' secondary. He's a total liability and got torched for a 114.3 passer rating when targeted in coverage in 2023.

But the Eagles' only real option is to simply stash him on the bench. His cap hits for the next two years aren't anything crazy, but wasting $5-10 million is not what you want to be doing when trying to return to the Super Bowl. And wasting a spot on the 53-man roster isn't insignificant either.

However, thanks to the contract structure, the Eagles would actually lose cap space if they cut ties with Bradberry before June 1, 2025, and even after that, they would simply be spreading the dead money he counts against the cap all the way out into 2026 too.
