3 Eagles Who Won't Survive the Season in Philadelphia
By Randy Gurzi
The Philadelphia Eagles kick off their 2024 season on Friday, Sept. 6. They’ll be heading to São Paulo to face the Green Bay Packers for the first-ever NFL game in Brazil.
Clearly, the NFL wanted this to be an honor but that’s not how all the players see it. Darius Slay, for instance, is asking why safety wasn’t more of a concern when making this decision.
Hopefully, all is well and the focus can quickly return to the field of play. With that being the case, let’s look ahead and identify three Eagles who are unlikely to last the entire year.
3. Tristin McCollum, Safety
Undrafted out of Sam Houston in 2022, Tristin McCollum was signed by the Houston Texans. He spent his entire rookie campaign on the practice squad before being signed by the Eagles in 2023.
Despite playing well in camp, he was let go and again spent the majority of the year on the practice squad. He was called up to the active roster eventually and appeared in three games, recording six tackles in the process.
This year, he was able to make the 53-man roster but he was aided by a couple of injuries. One was to James Bradberry, who will miss a couple of months after switching from corner to safety. The Eagles are also still without Sydney Brown who tore his ACL in 2023.
Brown started the season on the PUP and when he returns, it wouldn’t be a shock to see McCollum become the odd man out. That becomes even more possible if they keep Bradberry (which isn’t a guarantee).
