Quarterback play has been a hot topic for the Philadephia Eagles this offseason. Thankfully, they don't have any concerns about Jalen Hurst as QB1 but behind him, the backups have left a lot to be desired.

Heading into their preseason opener, offseason acquisition Kenny Pickett had been highly criticized. There were even rumors he could be released before Week 1, which would be a major fall for the 2022 first-round pick.

Pickett was indeed unable to hold down the starting job with the Pittsburgh Steelers but on Friday night, he showed Eagles' fans that he can operate an offense. His numbers weren't overly impressive (they usually aren't) but they were fine as he went 14-of-22 for 89 yards with a touchdown.

Tanner McKee wound up replacing him in this game and his numbers were ugly (6-of-16 for 39 yards) but he actually played better than it appeared. What was of note was the absence of Will Grier.

A former third-round pick of the Carolina Panthers in 2019, Grier hasn't seen action in a regular season game since his rookie campaign. Still, he's typically been a preseason favorite, most notably with the Dallas Cowboys. He lit it up for them in the 2022 preseason but was never going to unseat Cooper Rush as the backup and spent most of the season on the practice squad.

Last year, he spent time with three teams (Cincinnati Bengals, Los Angeles Chargers, and New England Patriots) but was never able to see the field. Now in Philly, he didn't get a shot in the first preseason game which might not be a great sign for his future.
