2. Zack Baun, Linebacker

Linebacker was a weak spot for the Eagles in 2023. They hoped their addition of Shaq Leonard would change that but the former Indianapolis Colts Pro Bowler wasn't the same player we remember from the beginning of his career. Leonard has had two back surgeries which seemed to slow him down.

They also had Zach Cunningham who recorded 85 tackles but wasn't overly-explosive as he approached 30. Neither has been re-signed as the Eagles elected to bring in Devin White, Zack Baun, and Oren Burks in free agency. They also selected Jeremiah Trotter, Jr. in the NFL Draft.

These additions could be problematic for Nakobe Dean especially since Baun has been impressing everyone in Philadelphia, even new defensive coordinator Vic Fangio.

"When Vic Fangio was asked about the Eagles’ off-ball linebackers in his first Philly conference, Zack Baun’s name came up before any other player at that position. Baun then proceeded to take the bulk of first-team linebacker reps in the spring. He looked like a fluid mover; there was even a rep where he was stride-for-stride downfield with Saquon Barkley. I don’t know if Baun is going to be good but I do expect him to play a lot"

Baun was a third-round pick out of Wisconsin, beginning his career with the New Orleans Saints. He never really found a rhythm with them but was never a bust. He had 30 tackles and two sacks last year. Baun was a pass-rushing specialist for the Badgers and can still bring that to the table for the Eagles but is starting to prove he can be a well-rounded linebacker as well.
