The Philadelphia Eagles held on for a thrilling 33-26 victory over the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday afternoon. But soon after everyone caught their breath from Jordan Davis’s blocked field goal and return for a touchdown to end the game, many wondered about the status of offensive tackle Lane Johnson.
One of the pillars of the Eagles’ offensive line, Johnson left Sunday’s game in the first quarter as he was injured on Philadelphia’s first attempt on the Tush Push. While Johnson did not return to the game, ESPN’s Tim McManus reported that the injury is merely a stinger and it is not expected to keep him out of Philadelphia’s Week 4 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Eagles Will Welcome Lane Johnson Back With Open Arms in Week 4
A player that will likely have a case for a gold jacket someday, Johnson is an important piece to the offensive line. Since being selected with the fourth overall pick in the 2013 draft, Johnson has gone to six Pro Bowls and is a two-time First Team All-Pro selection as one of the best tackles in all of football.
Johnson has lived up to that reputation early this season, posting a 68.8 overall grade and allowing just two pressures on 61 pass-blocking snaps according to Pro Football Focus. But his absence threw a wrench into Philadelphia’s offense after his first-quarter departure.
Matt Pryor was the first to try and replace Johnson, but the Eagles offense went scoreless on their final four drives to end the first half. Fred Johnson came in after halftime and Philadelphia responded with a six-play, 79-yard drive that ended with a 33-yard touchdown pass from Jalen Hurts to Dallas Goedert.
The move jump-started the Eagles’ offense, which overcame a 19-point deficit to improve to 3-0. While they came away with the victory, having Lane Johnson back in the lineup will be a big boost as Philadelphia looks to continue its winning ways in Week 4.
