One of the biggest surprise contributions for the Philadelphia Eagles in their Week 8 win over the Cincinnati Bengals came from veteran cornerback Isaiah Rodgers. After Darius Slay exited the game with a groin injury, Rodgers made the most of the opportunity, tipping a pass intended for WR Ja'Marr Chase that led to an interception. He finished the game with a season-high 89.5 PFF grade, potentially earning himself an expanded role.

He may get that chance as soon as Week 9. Slay didn't practice on Wednesday, putting his availability against the Jaguars in jeopardy. Rodgers could potentially get his first start of the season, in his only fifth game for the Eagles.

When asked about how he thinks this impacts his pending free agency, Rodgers gave an answer that will make Eagles fans happy. According to PHLY reporter Zach Berman, the 26-year-old defender said that he wants to perform well not for his options in free agency but to be able to stay in Philadelphia "for the rest of [his] career."

Eagles News: CB Isaiah Rodgers Wants to Stay in Philly Long-Term

It sounds like Rodgers is grateful for the chance the Eagles took on him when the rest of the league didn't. After being suspended in June 2023 for violating the NFL's gambling policy, Rodgers was waived by the Indianapolis Colts. The Eagles signed him in August 2023 but Rodgers ended up sitting out the entire season due to his suspension.

Since the league reinstated him in the 2024 offseason, Rodgers has been making the most of his opportunity. In 58 defensive snaps, he has only allowed one catch for two yards and a 42.4 passer rating in coverage. In a small sample, he has proven that he deserves a bigger chance and he will likely get it to prove himself to the organization even further.
