With the Detroit Lions hiring Drew Petzing as their offensive coordinator, Philadelphia Eagles fans are hoping that the Eagles’ chances have increased in landing Mike McDaniel or Brian Daboll as offensive coordinator.
On Tuesday, Dianna Russini of The Athletic reported that the Eagles are interviewing Daboll for their offensive coordinator vacancy. Bringing a smile to the faces of that segment of the fan base that is yearning for a more productive-looking offense come the 2026 season.
After the failed Kevin Patullo experience this season, Daboll would be an immediate upgrade for the Eagles and hopefully get this offense back on track. However, it won’t be that simple for the Eagles, as several teams are still looking for head coaches and coordinators.
One of those teams is the Tennessee Titans, who hired former San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh on Monday night to be their next head coach. The Eagles just saw Saleh and the 49ers a couple of weeks ago, where San Francisco won 23-19 in the wildcard round.
Eagles' OC Target Brian Daboll on Radar of Titans, Robert Saleh
Sending the reigning Super Bowl champs packing early is one thing, but now Saleh could also steal Daboll from the Eagles. According to Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports, Daboll’s name has come up in Tennessee as a top option to serve as Saleh’s offensive coordinator.
Jones did add that the former New York Giants head coach is presumably a head coach candidate in Buffalo and will likely wait to see what happens there.
If you’re the Eagles, it would be devastating to think that Daboll could turn you down for the Titans, who have been one of the worst teams in the NFL since Mike Vrabel was fired from his post as head coach. However, with Saleh being a defensive-minded coach, whoever the offensive coordinator is will likely have the full reins on offense.
For a guy like Daboll, who was fired earlier this season by the Giants, the idea of working with Cam Ward and having full control of the offense could be appealing.
As for the Eagles’ side of things, we know that they have the much better pieces on offense than the Titans do. However, will Sirianni allow Daboll to put his full imprint on the Eagles’ offense, or will there be some remnants of Sirianni’s ideas?
If the Eagles hire Daboll and the offense looks competent and explosive in 2026, it could lead to Daboll getting a head coaching opportunity next year. That would not be ideal for the Eagles, but it would be great for Daboll.
Nonetheless, it will be quite interesting to see how this all plays out for the Eagles, who need to hit a home run on this offensive coordinator hire. Losing out on Daboll to a head coaching job is one thing. But losing him to the Titans or any other team for an OC gig would not be a good look at all.
