Nick Sirianni Provides Positive Eagles Injury News on Wednesday
By Jovan Alford
The Philadelphia Eagles will welcome the Washington Commanders to Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday for the NFC title game. The Eagles are coming off a thrilling 28-22 win over the Los Angeles Rams in the divisional round last week.
Within that hard-fought win, the Eagles had starters Jalen Hurts and Quinyon Mitchell get hurt, which is not ideal. However, the initial reports after the game about Hurts and Mitchell’s status for the title game were positive.
On Tuesday, Jason Dumas of 6ABC reported that Mitchell and Hurts would play on Sunday, which is in line with what head coach Nick Sirianni said, along with the rookie quarterback.
Sirianni met with reporters on Wednesday and said that Hurts and Mitchell will be at today’s walkthrough, per ESPN’s Tim McManus. If you are an Eagles fan, this is a good sign as the severity of both players' injuries last week wasn’t clear.
The rookie cornerback sustained a shoulder injury in the first quarter against the Rams after making a tackle on Matthew Stafford. Mitchell was ruled out for the rest of the game, leading to Isaiah Rodgers taking over the CB2 spot opposite Darius Slay.
Meanwhile, Hurts suffered a scary knee injury in the third quarter, where he was seen grabbing his knee. However, he did not miss the rest of the game, which was a huge sigh of relief for the Eagles.
That said, Philadelphia hopes Hurts and Mitchell can make it through practice this week without issue, as they need them on the field to beat the Commanders. Hurts played in the first meeting against the Commanders in Week 11, but only had 12 snaps in the second meeting in Week 16 as he suffered a concussion.
Lastly, Mitchell has played in both matchups this season and has done a good job in coverage, allowing three receptions for 47 yards. The young cornerback will be tested on Sunday by this Commanders’ offense, which had 481 total yards (299 passing) against the Lions.
