Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni is in a tough position heading into the offseason, attempting to solve the team's offensive woes. After removing Kevin Patullo from the offensive coordinator position, Sirianni is tasked with either hiring a proven OC, which comes with its own set of risks.

This was pointed out by The Athletic's Zach Berman, who offered the following on the potential problem:

"I'm not dismissive of the suggestion that the Eagles would benefit from continuity at play-caller. Would it be ideal to find the offense's version of Vic Fangio? Of course," Berman wrote. "But find the best coach. Let your biggest problem be the offense playing so well the OC gets hired away." This obviously is leaning towards hiring Mike McDaniel or Brian Daboll, who both have proven experience as a playcaller.

It is an understandable stance to take and opens up the chance for Philadelphia to make another Super Bowl run in the 2026 season. However, it does ignore the fact that they'd likely be heading towards another potentially frustrating one-and-done situation. In other words, head coach Nick Sirianni's job will be far from easy this offseason.

Eagles, Nick Sirianni Facing Big OC Conundrum Ahead of Pivotal Decision

It is easy to understand Berman's argument and get behind the idea of simply focusing on who is the best option for the job. Forget the future and look at the 2026 season as a fresh slate, chosing the option that gives the Eagles the best chance to make another Super Bowl run. Internal promotions are what got Philadelphia to its current situation, so if the best man for the job is in another city right now, the front office can't ignore that.

There is no denying the pressure on Sirianni to get this decision right and the consequences awaiting the head coach if he doesn't. Another season of offensive frustration could lead to general manager Howie Roseman rethinking the 44-year-old's future. In a league that just saw Pete Carroll and John Harbaugh fired, or Mike Tomlin step down, one's resume will only protect them for so long.

Sirianni is incredibly accomplished in his young career, but has underachieved in both the 2025 and 2023 seasons, with a Super Bowl run sandwiched in between. It's important to hire the perfect OC for the Eagles' plethora of offensive weapons, from quarterback Jalen Hurts to running back Saquon Barkley and everyone in between.

If Sirianni doesn't make the right choice when finding Patullo's successor, the 2026 season could be the Eagles HC's last in Philly.
