The Philadelphia Eagles’ schedule for the 2025 season will be released by the NFL later this week but the league has already released select games this week. As the reigning Super Bowl champions, it’s a good bet that Eagles fans will know several games ahead of the official release on Wednesday night and we already know they’ll be hosting the Dallas Cowboys to kick off their title defense.

But while many games will be a celebration, there are other games that Eagles fans would care to forget. One of those moments will be a national showcase late in the season and could have NFC East division implications in Week 16.

Eagles Return to Washington to Take Place in Week 16 Showcase

FOX Sports announced that the Eagles will be part of a Week 16 Saturday doubleheader when they travel to face the Washington Commanders on Dec. 20. The game will be paired with a game between the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears later that evening, but Philadelphia will be interested in avenging a rare blemish from their Super Bowl season.

The Eagles made a Week 16 trip to Washington and it did not go in their favor. Jalen Hurts was knocked out of the game early with a concussion, but Philadelphia built a 27-14 lead on a 40-yard field goal by Jake Elliott. The Commanders came back with a pair of touchdowns from Jayden Daniels to Olamide Zaccheaus to take a 28-27 lead with 9:06 to play, but a pair of Elliott field goals gave Philadelphia a 33-28 advantage with 1:58 to go.

Elliott’s second field goal was disappointing in that DeVonta Smith dropped a pass beyond the sticks on third down that would have sealed the game, and Daniels made them pay, orchestrating a 10-play, 65-yard drive that ended with a nine-yard touchdown pass to Jamison Crowder with six seconds remaining to win the game.

The Eagles would get revenge by blowing out the Commanders 55-23 in the NFC Championship Game a few weeks later. But you would have to forgive them if they felt deja vu walking into FedEx Field for another Week 16 matchup.

Either way, Philadelphia’s schedule is falling into place and it includes a big divisional matchup late in the 2025 season.
