The Philadelphia Eagles are still basking in their Super Bowl victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. Last week’s victory parade celebrated the second championship in franchise history and the second Super Bowl win in the past eight seasons and most of the festivities were considered a good time.

But not everyone was pleased with the Eagles’ celebration. Nearly one week after the 40-22 victory over the Chiefs, the NFL made an announcement regarding Eagles defensive lineman Jalyx Hunt, who wound up in hot water due to his celebration during the game.

NFL fines Eagles Jalyx Hunt for “Bow and Arrow” Celebration During Super Bowl

Hunt was fined $5,690 by the NFL last weekend for unsportsmanlike conduct after a bow-and-arrow celebration during the Eagles win in Super Bowl LIX. The celebration came in the second quarter of the victory when Hunt sacked Patrick Mahomes and mimicked shooting a bow-and-arrow into the sky.

Hunt was not penalized during the game but the NFL has made a point of cracking down on violent celebrations. CBS Jonathan Jones reported that the league was concerned about an “epidemic” of gun-related celebrations back in October and the league racked up over $1.1 million in fines for unsportsmanlike conduct infractions this season according to Spotrac.

“[The rule] has been in the books for years, and it hasn’t really surfaced,” A league executive told Jones in October’s report. “...Haven’t really noticed it that much until this year. Now it’s almost an epidemic of them.”

Mahomes was on the other end when he was fined $14,000 by the NFL for a gun-related gesture back in November. Chiefs receiver Xavier Worthy also was fined $14,069 for pretending to show a gun in his waistband during the Chiefs’ Christmas Day victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

While Hunt’s fine was different due to the bow-and-arrow penalty, he still found a way to turn it into a positive after Eagles fans set up a fundraising effort to pay it. Hunt agreed to pay the fine – which was a small chunk of the $171,000 bonus Eagles players received for winning the Super Bowl – and instead directed fans to donate their money to Barbers Who Care Inc., who raise money for scholarships, autism awareness and other causes in Philly.

Hunt’s fine may also be worth it because Cooper DeJean picked off Mahomes and ran it back 38-yards to give Philadelphia a 17-0 lead. Regardless, Hunt found a way to turn the NFL’s fine into a positive as he celebrates his first Super Bowl ring.
