The Philadelphia Eagles can't ignore the elephant in the room with A.J. Brown anymore. The star wide receiver has been a distraction for way too long, and it's starting to feel like a divorce is inevitable this offseason. Fortunately, the Buffalo Bills might be able to help the Eagles if a split with Brown is inevitable.
The Bills are making the rounds for all the wrong reasons right now. First, firing head coach Sean McDermott and promoting general manager Brandon Beane to president seemed like an odd move. Now, team owner Terry Pegula is reminding everyone why he rarely addresses the media.
In a news conference, Pegula opened up on his decision to move on from McDermott and why he trusts Beane to lead the way. More than that, he may have put a bow on top of WR Keon Coleman's head to gift him away to the highest bidder
“I’ll address the Keon situation,” Pegula started. “The coaching staff pushed to draft Keon. I’m not saying Brandon wouldn’t have drafted him, but he wasn’t his next choice. That was Brandon being a team player and taking advice of this coaching staff, who felt strongly about the player. He’s taken, for some reason, heat over it and not saying a word about it, but I’m here to tell you the true story.”
If this truly is the beginning of the end for Coleman in Buffalo, the Eagles need to give the Bills a call immediately — especially if Brown is on his way out.
Potential Eagles-Bills Trade for Keon Coleman Makes Too Much Sense with AJ Brown's Exit Likely
While Coleman has been one of the most disappointing young players in the league over the past couple of years, he's just 22 years old and only has two seasons under his belt. He's signed through 2027, is on a team-friendly deal, and can probably be had at a major discount, given Buffalo's open disdain for him.
The Eagles will most likely have no choice but to entertain trade offers for Brown, who is disgruntled and has openly voiced his frustrations with his role. Ironically, the Bills have been mentioned as a potentially ideal landing spot for the former Tennessee Titans draft pick, and if they don't mind absorbing the rest of his contract, a potential trade could become a reality.
Of course, Coleman isn't anywhere close to Brown, but there's too much untapped potential there. His physical tools made him a no-brainer pick at No. 33, and he can still turn out to be the dominant pass-catcher at the X receiver position. He's already averaging a solid 14.3 yards on 67 career catches, and has already crossed the 100-yard mark twice in 26 regular-season games.
The Eagles can't afford Brown to continue being a distraction for much longer. DeVonta Smith has all the tools to be a WR1, and whoever the Eagles hire to be their next offensive coordinator should do a much better job of getting the passing game going. Not that the bar is high at all.
Coleman also has plenty of growing up to do, and swapping one volatile player for an immature one may not be the wisest call. That being said, Eagles GM Howie Roseman has a reputation for striking gold with reclamation projects, and if the trade value makes sense, Coleman could be the ultimate low-risk/high-reward pickup, making a potential Brown divorce a bit more palatable.
