Former Philadelphia Eagles offensive lineman Kenyon Green has struggled to find a new gig after being waived eight days ago. Before releasing him last week, the Eagles had shuffled Green on and off the 53-man roster over the first month of the regular season.
On Tuesday, Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network reported that the ex-Eagle offensive lineman was signed to the Baltimore Ravens’ practice squad. It’s not surprising to see that Green joined the Ravens, as he reportedly worked out for them at the end of last week.
The Ravens are currently in bad shape, as they’re sitting at 1-3 after the first month of the regular season and banged up on both sides of the ball. Baltimore doesn’t need an offensive lineman right now, despite their fans clamoring for a change at guard. However, maybe the Ravens believe that they can help Green get back on track.
Former Eagle Kenyon Green Joins Baltimore Ravens in Week 5
When the Eagles acquired Green from the Houston Texans as part of the C.J. Gardner-Johnson trade in March, Philadelphia was hoping that the 24-year-old could show them something in training camp and possibly compete for the starting right guard job.
As Eagles fans know by now, though, that wasn’t the case. The former first-round pick suffered a shoulder injury in the preseason opener against the Cincinnati Bengals, which kept him off the field for the rest of the exhibition slate. As for the starting right guard job, Tyler Steen solidified himself as the guy, putting Green’s spot in jeopardy.
In his lone preseason appearance, the young lineman posted an overall offensive grade of 52.8, according to Pro Football Focus, which will not cut it on Jeff Stoutland’s unit. That said, Green showed some glimpses of promise in pass protection, only allowing one pressure in 34 snaps.
Despite those promising moments, the Eagles didn’t think it was enough to keep Green around for the long haul. Nonetheless, he will try to stick with the Ravens for hopefully more than a week or two.
Based on what Green had done with the Texans to start his career and his short stint in Philadelphia, Baltimore fans shouldn’t be in a rush to get him on the field anytime soon. If Green can't figure it out with the Ravens, he might not get many more chances.
