Coming off the heels of a Super Bowl victory former Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore has a new reason to celebrate. On Thursday, he was announced as the new head coach of the New Orleans Saints, taking over for Dennis Allen, who was fired last October.
The job is the first head coaching gig for the 36-year-old and one that felt like a long time coming since he broke in as the Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator in 2019. Moore has a lot of work to be done helping a team that finished 5-12 last season, but he has some unfinished business in Philadelphia which led to a big reveal during his introductory press conference.
Former Eagles OC Kellen Moore Confirms He’ll Be At Super Bowl Victory Parade
Moore told reporters on Thursday that he will be attending the Eagles Super Bowl victory parade, which is slated to take place on Friday in Philadelphia. While Moore has flown back and forth from Philadelphia to New Orleans to finalize his new job.
“There’s been a little bit of travel this week, which is all good,” Moore said with a smile. “We have an opportunity to be here, we’ll go back for the parade tomorrow in Philadelphia and then quickly get back here and get going.”
There are several good reasons why Moore is taking time to soak in the moment. A former Boise State star, Moore only appeared in three games during his six-year career, spending time with the Detroit Lions from 2012 to 2014 and the Cowboys from 2015 to 2017.
Moore began his coaching career immediately after his retirement as the Cowboys quarterbacks coach in 2018 and spent three seasons as their offensive coordinator from 2019 to 2022. Moore spent one season with the Los Angeles Chargers before landing in Philadelphia this past season and he credited Nick Sirianni for mentoring him on the path to landing the job with the Saints.
“First and foremost, I love Nick,” Moore said. “I’m forever grateful for the opportunity to team up with him through this past year. [He’s] a tremendous leader, tremendous head football coach in the national football league. He won a world championship for a reason and I’m so thankful for that. As we went through this process, an opportunity to be a head coach is really special in this league and the more we went through the process, it became very clear that this one was going to be a really special one if the opportunity presented itself. And so, Nick and I had plenty of conversations when we went through this journey. He was very supportive of it and certainly he would love for us to team up again but he understood that this was going to be a special place for us.”

With those comments, it appears Moore is going to the parade not to just celebrate for his own reasons but to support a coach that has been an instrumental part of his career. While he’ll continue that journey with the Saints, Moore will be an Eagle for one more day as he celebrates a Super Bowl victory.
