The Philadelphia Eagles have the Washington Commanders coming into town for the NFC Championship Game on Sunday at 3 p.m. EST.

A trip to the Super Bowl against either the Buffalo Bills or the Kansas City Chiefs is on the line. This matchup against the Commanders is personal, as both teams are in the NFC East. The season series was split 1-1, but in the Week 16 contest, Jalen Hurts left with a concussion. He's also dealing with a left knee injury that he suffered in the Divisional Round.

Commanders defensive coordinator Joe Whitt was asked how his defense will defend Hurts. His answer was they will hit him like he's a running back if Philly dials up rushing plays for him.

Eagles News: Commanders Will Be Physical With Jalen Hurts on Sunday

Witt said, "If he is going to run the ball…we are going to treat him like a running back. We’re going to hit him that way. That’s their decision if they want to get him hit."

Back in Week 16, Hurts got hurt early in the first quarter. On a rushing attempt, Hurts was tackled by linebacker Frankie Luvu, and his head was driven into the ground. He was eventually ruled out and Washington topped the Eagles 36-33.

The Eagles will need to be careful about how they deploy Hurts on Sunday, especially since he's nursing a left knee injury.

The Commanders aren't hiding the fact that they will get physical if Hurts is a runner. The last time these two played, Hurts got injured on a run play. They would be smart to scale back some of the runs but they shouldn't do it completely.

If he feels good enough to run the ball, that still needs to be a part of the game plan. That's what makes Hurts unique as a quarterback. In the Week 11 win over the Commanders at home, the 26-year-old went 18-of-28 for 221 yards. He also added 39 rushing yards.

They'll need a similar performance but with more touchdowns to beat a surging Commanders team. A Super Bowl appearance is on the line, so expect Hurts to leave it all on the field.
