Jalen Hurts Makes 1st Comments on Playoff Injury After Win Over Rams
The Philadelphia Eagles are headed back to the NFC Championship Game after taking down the Los Angeles Rams 28-22 on Sunday. In typical Philly fashion, a gritty performance helped the Eagles emerge victorious, with the run game and defense clearing the way to the win.
It was quarterback Jalen Hurts who actually got things going for Philadelphia, as he ripped off a surprising 44-yard touchdown run to put the team up 6-0. However, the dual threat's mobility was severely limited late in the third quarter after an aggressive tackle where Hurts appeared to injure his knee.
Though he came back in and finished the game out, many are worried about the two-time Pro Bowler going into the NFCCG against the feisty Washington Commanders.
In a development that shocks no one, Hurts didn't give away much about his health in his first postgame comments, but he did address the injury.
NBC reporter Melissa Stark asked Hurts if he would be good for the conference championship following Sunday's win over Los Angeles. He said he didn't know if he could answer that question in the moment, and when questioned if he was "OK," Hurts plainly responded, "I finished the game."
Now, these aren't exactly rosy comments from the Eagles' signal-caller. Yet, there is some reason not to be alarmed by these remarks.
Hurts is known for keeping things very close to the vest, so it's actually expected he doesn't want to broadcast if he is actually injured. He and head coach Nick Sirianni are fierce competitors, and they're often aligned on not giving opponents any kind of informational advantage ahead of matchups.
It's incredibly encouraging Hurts came back into the contest and finished it out without requiring drives off. If there was something major going on with the QB, the Eagles absolutely would've put in Kenny Pickett for at least a few snaps, especially since they had Saquon Barkley to carry the offensive load.
Instead, Hurts stood strong and completed several important throws in the fourth quarter to put points on the board.
Once the game adrenaline wears off, Hurts and the team will have a better gauge of his status. Even if he is dealing with an actual injury and not just some general soreness, the QB is the type of player who'll do everything he can to perform despite any pain he's experiencing.
