Injured Eagle Officially Ruled Out for Super Bowl
By Chris Schad
The Philadelphia Eagles are preparing to take on the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX and a big reason they’ve made it to New Orleans is their defensive line. Led by Jordan Davis, Jalen Carter and Milton Williams, the Eagles defense ranked 10th in rushing yards and 13th in sacks this season.
But while the Eagles’ starters have performed well, they may be without some of their depth as an injured player has already been ruled out for next Sunday’s showdown.
Byron Young Officially Ruled Out for Super Bowl LIX
Defensive tackle Byron Young spent most of this season dealing with a hamstring injury and was placed on injured reserve in October. While the Eagles opened Young’s 21-day practice window on Jan. 8, his recovery never progressed and KPRC2’s Aaron Wilson reports he will not be activated for the Super Bowl.
The news closes the book on another disappointing season for Young. The Tennessee product was a third-round pick by the Las Vegas Raiders in the 2023 NFL Draft but collected just four tackles in six games during his rookie season. Young did not play a game for Las Vegas this year and was placed on waivers in October. Philadelphia claimed Young shortly after, though he didn’t play a down before suffering his injury.
With Young out of the picture, the Eagles will scramble to find depth on its defensive line ahead of the Super Bowl. Fellow defensive tackle Moro Ojomo did not participate in Wednesday’s practice due to a shoulder injury, leaving Thomas Booker IV as the lone down lineman currently available.
The Eagles also had several other players miss Wednesday's practice as they made their initial preparations to battle the Chiefs. Fortunately, Nick Sirianni and his staff will have a week to sort out who is available before Super Bowl LIX kicks off on Feb. 9.
