Haason Reddick’s Contract Gamble Completely Backfires
By Cem Yolbulan
In the 2024 offseason, the Philadelphia Eagles made the polarizing decision to trade star pass rusher Haason Reddick to the New York Jets for a conditional third-round pick. The two-time Pro Bowler was entering the final year of his contract and was demanding a lucrative, long-term extension. Instead of giving the then-29-year-old defender the extension, GM Howie Roseman moved on from him and replaced him with Bryce Huff.
While the Huff acquisition hasn't particularly worked out well for the Eagles, things are looking even bleaker for Reddick. The star defender continued his contract holdout with the Jets, missing the entirety of training camp and the beginning of the regular season.
As we enter Week 6 of the NFL season, Reddick hasn't been able to get what he wanted from New York. Instead, he has been accruing ridiculous amounts of fines and forfeiting his salary for the season. As a result, it was reported that he and his agency CAA were parting ways due to "philosophical differences".
NFL News: Haason Reddick Dropped by His Agency
For every regular-season game missed, Reddick is fined $800k. In addition to those mandatory fines, he has racked up over $1.5 million in discretionary fines. Add the $4.75 million in lost salary and it has been a costly year for the All-Pro defender.
His agents presumably wanted to have him out there with the Jets to get their client paid. Reddick is clearly adamant and doesn't want to back down. Considering the Jets have shown no indication to stop playing hardball, Reddick's future in the NFL is getting murkier by the day.
