Tuesday is a big deal around the NFL because it marks this year's 53-man roster cutdown deadline. Like the other 31 franchises, the Philadelphia Eagles have started to trim the roster fat in preparation for the regular season, where they'll look to re-establish their reputation as the reigning Super Bowl Champions.

The cutdown deadline is a stressful time for veterans and rookies on roster bubbles because it can make or break their NFL careers. Having said that, it's also a time when players can find opportunities to join a roster, including a former Eagles cornerback who just found a new home on Tuesday morning.

Former Eagles CB Rasul Douglas Signed by Dolphins Amid Roster Cuts

KPRC 2 Houston's Aaron Wilson is reporting that former Eagles CB Rasul Douglas has signed a one-year, $3 million contract with the Miami Dolphins. The ex-2017 third-round pick has allegedly been speaking with the Dolphins "throughout the offseason," per Wilson, and will remain in the AFC East after playing the two previous seasons with the Buffalo Bills.

Eagles fans will remember Douglas from his three seasons in the City of Brotherly Love after being drafted 99th overall almost a decade ago. The former West Virginia product made 18 starts in 46 regular-season outings during that time, tallying 95 solo tackles, 25 broken-up passes, and five interceptions. He also made six preseason appearances, with the highlight being winning Super Bowl LII.

With the Eagles' 2020 CB room bloated with talent, Douglas was released before the season began. He was promptly claimed by the Carolina Panthers and spent the campaign with them before having stints with the Las Vegas Raiders, Houston Texans, Arizona Cardinals, Green Bay Packers, and, most recently, the Bills.

It remains to be seen how much Douglas can help the Dolphins' secondary. The 29-year-old CB played to a 51.6 Pro Football Focus coverage grade — the second-worst mark of his career — last season, allowing 45 receptions on 62 targets (72.6%) for 569 yards, three touchdowns, and a 116.9 passer rating. If he has anything left in the tank, he didn't exactly show it.

The NFL is a cutthroat business, meaning Douglas will have to quickly prove himself to the Dolphins if he wants to survive the year in South Beach. If not, and his previous struggles re-emerge, the ex-Eagle will be back in the unemployment line soon.

In other words, Philly fans will be monitoring his journey closely.
