Former Philadelphia Eagles franchise quarterback Carson Wentz headlines a short list of top 2025 free agents still searching for a new landing spot.

Wentz being included in this list comes as something of a surprise, despite how the former Philly starter saw his time with the franchise end. The 32-year-old QB may no longer be a starter in this league; however, he bridges the gap between a bottom-of-the-NFL starter and a high-end backup.

It is hard to imagine why the veteran hasn't found a new landing spot after spending a season backing up Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City.

While the Eagles have zero interest in a reunion, the veteran shouldn't have a problem finding a new landing spot. The current delay is likely due to Wentz holding out hope of finding a chance to compete for a starting job. This seems incredibly unlikely with the Pittsburgh Steelers' signing of Aaron Rodgers appearing to fill the final question mark in the league.

Former Eagles Franchise QB Carson Wentz Remains a Free Agent

Since leaving the Eagles, the quarterback has spent time with the Indianapolis Colts, Washington Commanders, and Chiefs. It's a decision Philly made far too late after Nick Foles' Super Bowl run imploded what was an impressive start to the quarterback's career. The Eagles would eventually turn things over to Jalen Hurts, who has helped lead them to the Super Bowl twice in his time as the face of the franchise.

Interestingly, it was Hurts that handed Wentz a Super Bowl loss with the former Eagle in a backup role behind Mahomes in Philly's Super Bowl shellacking of the defending champs.

All of this adds up to a team beyond relieved to have made the right choice in turning the page on the former starter. Still, there is a part of Eagles fans that will always wonder what could have been if not for Wentz's injury that ruined what appeared to be an MVP season for the young quarterback back in 2017.

Regardless, the Eagles are happy with the decisions they have made, and Wentz remains stuck in free agency, hoping for a new landing spot. Meanwhile, Hurts joins an elite list with only Joe Burrow and Tom Brady as quarterbacks who have beaten Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes in the postseason.

A feat Philly fans have every reason to believe could happen once again in 2025.
