The Philadelphia Eagles had their 2025 schedule released on Wednesday night. While they knew who and where they would be playing them, they didn’t know when and with that question answered, they’ll look ahead toward defending their Super Bowl title.

But while the Eagles calendar filled up on Wednesday night, there are some players who are still looking to fill it up. It includes a former player who used to call Philadelphia home, but is now making a last-minute plea to be saved from free agency and avoid a forced retirement.

Former Eagles Safety Jordan Poyer Says He Wants to Play in 2025

Free agent safety Jordan Poyer, who was a seventh-round pick by the Eagles in the 2013 NFL Draft, appeared on “Good Morning Football” to discuss his future on Wednesday. The 34-year-old said that he’s currently enjoying his time away from the game and knows retirement is on the horizon. But he also stated that he intends on playing in 2025 and that the Buffalo Bills would be a desired destination to end his career.

“Would I like to play again? Absolutely,” Poyer said. “Whatever that looks like. …It’d be dope, it’d be ideal to have a fantasy ending and be able to retire a Bill, but who knows? I’m just being an open book right now, really enjoying life for what it is.”

Poyer’s time with the Eagles didn’t last long as he only appeared in three games in his rookie season but he was picked up on waivers by the Cleveland Browns and went on to have a 12-year career in the NFL. Poyer spent the next three years in Cleveland before signing with the Bills before the 2017 season and had the best years of his career there, including an All-Pro campaign in 2021 with 93 total tackles, three sacks, nine pass defenses and five interceptions.

Unfortunately, Poyer was one of several cap casualties before the 2024 season and spent last year with the Miami Dolphins. Things did not go well in South Beach as Poyer made 98 total tackles but had just three pass defenses and no interceptions in 16 games.

“Last year was an extremely tough year on so many levels,” Poyer admitted. “Our team wasn’t very good. I didn’t play as well as I wanted to play. It was just a really tough year. Obviously, transitioning from Buffalo to Miami, cultures being different, systems being different, it just didn’t work out the way that anybody had hoped. But at the same time, I’m thankful for it all, thankful for all the moments, all the friendships.”

Poyer’s resume could earn him a job in the near future, but it’s hard to see it happening with Taylor Rapp and Damar Hamlin entrenched as starters in Buffalo. It leaves Poyer’s future in question as he waits for a phone call ahead of next season.
