Ex-Eagle in Danger of Being Next NFL Coach Fired Following Week 11 Results
After a hard-fought win on Thursday night, the Philadelphia Eagles had the luxury of watching Sunday's Week 11 games play out instead of worrying about suiting up. Some Eagles members like were tuned into the early-afternoon matchup between the Jacksonville Jaguars and Detroit Lions due to Detroit's current standing as the No. 1 seed in the NFC.
However, the main storyline heading into the contest was the job security of Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson, who's rumored to be on the chopping block if his team's struggles continue down the stretch.
Well, judging by Jacksonville's efforts on Sunday, Pederson's fate may already be sealed.
The Jags were absolutely wallopped by Dan Campbell's squad, surrendering a whopping 52 points in a 46-point loss, the worst in franchise history.
The fact the locker room responded like this to reports of Pederson being on the outs speaks volumes about how the much the relationship between players and coaching staff has deteriorated. When seemingly the entire squad quits on the man leading the ship, the front office only has one logical choice to move forward, and that means cutting Pederson loose.
If this was Pederson's final game in Jacksonville, he'd end his tenure as a disappointing 20-24 since taking over in 2022. While the Jaguars showed signs of growing into contenders early on under Pederson, they've either treaded water or straight up drowned since, with the offense taking a step back despite heavy investments in that unit -- which Pederson was specifically brought in to help turn around.
Pederson will always have his spot in history after leading the Eagles to a Super Bowl win during the 2017 campaign, but he's found it to be tough sledding as a coach ever since. It remains to be seen if he'll ever reach the mountaintop again.
