The Philadelphia Eagles know they are slated to get everyone's best punch this upcoming season. That comes with the territory of being a Super Bowl champ, and these training camp practices play a pivotal role in how this 53-man roster will pan out.

Everyone knows that A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith are the 1-2 punch in the WR room, but injuries are a part of the game, so the Eagles want to make sure they have quality depth at the position.

There's one recent draft pick who hasn't played well in camp thus far, and that's Johnny Wilson. He was selected in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL draft but is off to a bad start in camp and could end up out of town if he keeps it up.

In Tuesday's practice, Eliot Shorr-Parks tweeted out that Wilson dropped a pass during some 1 vs. 1 drills. Meanwhile, Brandon Lee Gowton posted on Monday that CB Mac McWilliams had a pass breakup in the end zone when matched up against Wilson in a jump ball situation. That's not ideal considering McWilliams is 5'10", while Wilson is 6'6", so he should have won that matchup.

Eagles WR Johnny Wilson Hasn’t Impressed in Training Camp

This isn't the start that he needed after a very bland rookie season. In 2024, Wilson suited up in 16 games, with four total starts. In those games, he reeled in five catches (15 targets) with 38 yards and one touchdown. Wilson played in 34% of the offensive snaps and 24% of the special teams reps.

He was never a crafty route runner or speedy deep threat, but considering that he's 6'6", the fans were likely hoping he could give them another big-bodied, physical receiver.

Unfortunately, that hasn't been the case, and his reps in camp have shown that he hasn't taken the massive strides they likely hoped for.

Philadelphia's depth at the WR position leaves a ton to be desired, yet there are other guys who are stepping up, like Terrace Marshall Jr., who has made plays throughout camp.

The Eagles also have Jahan Dotson, Ainias Smith, Darius Cooper, Elijah Cooks, Giles Jackson, Taylor Morin, and Ife Adeyi, who are fighting to stick on this roster. These practices and the three preseason games will give everyone the shot to impress the coaching staff, but as of now, Wilson is falling down the pecking order.
