4 Eagles Whose Futures Were Decided in Super Bowl
By Jovan Alford
4. Milton Williams, DT
Williams is another one of the Eagles’ premier free agents this offseason that Howie Roseman will try to keep around for the foreseeable future.
The 25-year-old defensive lineman shined in Vic Fangio’s scheme this season, which Eagles fans hoped was the case. During the regular season, Williams posted 24 combined tackles, 10 quarterback hits, seven tackles for loss, five sacks, and a forced fumble. The five sacks were a career-high for Williams, who only had four in 2022 (the last time the Eagles went to the Super Bowl).
Williams didn’t have a single sack in the first three Eagles playoff games, but he flipped the switch on Sunday night in Super Bowl 59. The former third-round pick destroyed the Chiefs’ offensive line as Mahomes was under constant pressure by the Eagles’ defensive line.
The 25-year-old defender had four combined tackles, two sacks, two tackles for loss, and a QB hit. Most of the attention heading into Sunday’s game was on Jalen Carter, but Williams, Sweat, and rookie Jalyx Hunt took advantage of their pass-rushing opportunities.
Heading into the offseason, Roseman will have to make a tough decision on trying to retain Sweat, Williams, and Baun.
It’s unlikely Sweat will be back, but seeing how Williams played in the middle of the defensive line with Carter, Fangio would love to have the dynamic duo back together for the foreseeable future.
