Eagles Vet Seems Like a Goner After Howie Roseman's Post-Draft Comments

It looks like a beloved Philadelphia Eagles veteran's time in the city is over following GM Howie Roseman's post-NFL draft comments.

The Philadelphia Eagles had yet another strong NFL draft performance over the weekend, leaving Green Bay with a handful of promising prospects in their possession. It's the type of showing the Eagles needed if their main goal is to repeat as Super Bowl Champions next season.

Now that the 2025 draft is in the rearview, the Eagles can focus on the rest of the NFL offseason and how certain veterans will fit into their plans. One returning vet whose future is up in the air right now is tight end Dallas Goedert, who's entering the final year of his contract without any guaranteed money remaining.

Eagles TE Dallas Goedert is Likely Gone After GM Howie Roseman's Comments

Following the draft, Eagles general manager Howie Roseman was asked about Goedert's future with the franchise. Unfortunately, the Philadelphia executive didn't exactly provide much hope to fans hoping for the veteran playmaker to stay in town.

"Dallas (Goedert) is part of this team as we speak," Roseman told reporters, per PHLY Sports' Zach Berman. If the Eagles planned to keep the 30-year-old TE in town, chances are Roseman would've given more of a concrete answer.

Drafted 49th overall in 2018, Goedert is been a mainstay in the Eagles' aerial attack for nearly a decade. The former South Dakota State pass-catcher has converted 349 catches into 4,085 receiving yards and 24 touchdowns across 93 regular-season games, while also posting a rock-solid 52-562-4 stat line in 12 postseason appearances, which includes winning Super Bowl 59.

Having said that, all good things eventually end, and it wouldn't be surprising if Goedert isn't on the Eagles' 2025 53-man roster. Aside from his expiring contract, the six-foot-five TE's health has been unreliable lately as he's yet to play a full season since his rookie year, which includes missing an average of five games in the last three campaigns.

A post-June 1 Goedert trade would save the Eagles over $4.05 million in cap space, according to OverTheCap. Assuming they're enticed by that number, it'd be interesting to see who'd emerge as the TE1 following a deal.

Veteran TEs Grant Calcaterra (24-298-1 in 17 games last season) and E.J. Jenkins both played with the Eagles last season, however, the latter is more suited for a blocking role. Philadelphia also added free agents Harrison Bryant and Kylen Granson earlier in the offseason, leaving time to tell if they can make an immediate impact this fall. That's without mentioning how Cameron Latu and Nick Muse might also challenge for some opportunities.

At the end of the day, the Eagles are fortunate to have plenty of backup options in case Goedert is sent packing. While his presence would be missed on the field and in the locker room, a potential divorce might be necessary for Philadelphia to remain competitive — especially if GM Roseman doesn't intend to re-sign the 2026 unrestricted free agent.

Hopefully, fans will have a better sense of Goedert's future as the Eagles' offseason ride approaches May.
