The Philadelphia Eagles and the Los Angeles Rams are slated to link up in an NFC showdown on Sunday Night Football. This contest will have seeding implications in the playoff picture down the line.

The Eagles have won six straight games and own an 8-2 record. Meanwhile, the Rams are 5-5 and are winners of four of their last five games. This battle features two hot teams but the Eagles decided to bring in a former Rams defender onto the squad.

Eagles News: Ochuan Mathis Joins Philadelphia’s Practice Squad

The Eagles have signed linebacker Ochuan Mathis to their practice squad and released linebacker David Anenih to create space.

Mathis was selected in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the Rams. Last season, he played in eight games in Los Angeles, logging two total tackles. He was then released by the Rams in August before landing on the New England Patriots practice squad this season.

He was elevated onto the active roster three separate times prior to signing with them. He appeared in five games in 2024 with them, securing two tackles and one forced fumble. The 25-year-old was let go by them in October.

Mathis is someone who can play on special teams and give the Eagles another body along the defensive line. Philadelphia placed EDGE Bryce Huff on IR due to a wrist injury. He'll be eligible to return in Week 16 against the Washington Commanders.

Until then, Mathis gives the Birds an additional presence up front who can be elevated onto the gameday roster. Although he likely won't be elevated for this contest against his former team, Mathis gives Philadelphia another option.
