Trade rumors are running rampant around the NFL as the first week of free agency continues. The Philadelphia Eagles aren't exempt from the rumor mill, highlighted by tight end Dallas Goedert being frequently named as an offseason trade candidate this month.
As beloved as Goedert is in the City of Brotherly Love, it's hard to ignore that his time with the Eagles might be over. The veteran pass-catcher has been plagued by injuries in recent years and is left without any guaranteed money heading into the final season of his contract, meaning Philadelphia could save about $6.7 million in cap space with a post-June 1 trade.
Even though the Eagles still have some time to debate Goedert's future, their latest signing indicates that they're preparing for life without him.
Eagles Sign TE Kylen Granson Amid Dallas Goedert Trade Rumors
NFL insider Adam Schefter is reporting that the Eagles have signed former Indianapolis Colts TE Kylen Granson to a one-year contract. The 26-year-old pass-catcher's addition marks the second tight end that Philadelphia has signed after adding Harrison Bryant on a $2 million contract for the 2025 season earlier this week.

Granson is a 6-foot-3, 242-pound who was drafted 127th overall by the Colts in 2021. The Austin, TX native began his collegiate career with the Rice Owls, however, he didn't truly break out until he transferred to SMU before the 2019 campaign, resulting in 78 catches for 1,257 yards and 14 touchdowns in two seasons with the Mustangs.
Unfortunately, Granson hasn't found similar success at the NFL level just yet. He only made 17 starts in 62 games across his four seasons with the Colts, resulting in an 86-958-1 stat line. His inability to secure balls constantly frustrated Indianapolis fans, proven by his six drops in the last three seasons, as well as the 37.3 passer rating he drew on 31 targets in 2024.
Additionally, his 53.8 Pro Football Focus receiving grade last season was the worst effort of his career. Having said that, his 78.3 pass protection grade was a new personal best, meaning he can still find ways to contribute even if his receiving skills leave much to be desired.
Although he hasn't been the most consistent pass-catcher, a fresh start with the defending Super Bowl Champions could motivate Granson to turn his career around. He also is only turning 27 at the end of the month, so he's still young enough that his best performance could be on the horizon.
With Granson and Bryant under contract for the 2025 campaign, it remains to be seen what the Eagles will do with Goedert. As great as it would be for the veteran TE to finish his career in Philadelphia, the Eagles can't ignore the potential savings that a trade would create, especially when the freed-up cash can address multiple roster areas.
For now, Eagles fans should enjoy the time that they still have left with Goedert. Whether that's another full season or only a few more weeks, only time will tell.
