Eagles Set to Be Without Key Veteran for Multiple Weeks After Latest Injury Update
By Cem Yolbulan
The Philadelphia Eagles won against the Cleveland Browns in Week 6 but lost a key starter late in the fourth quarter. Left tackle Jordan Mailata exited the game early with a left leg injury and was seen on crutches afterward. It was later revealed that Mailata had a hamstring injury that would keep him out for a couple of weeks.
On Friday, Eagles fans got a confirmation of the situation when Adam Schefter reported that the team placed him on the Injured Reserve list.
NFL News: Eagles Place OT Jordan Mailata on IR List
This means that Mailata will miss at least the next four games for Philadelphia. This includes the Week 7 matchup against the Giants, followed by clashes against the Bengals, Jaguars, and Cowboys. Fortunately for the Eagles, they don't need a fully healthy offensive line to win majority of those matchups.
The 27-year-old offensive lineman has been one of the Eagles' best players so far. After reaching a massive three-year, $66 million extension in the offseason, Mailata picked up where he left off last year. On PFF, he is ranked as the fourth-best offensive tackle in the league with an 88.4 grade so far.
In Mailata's absence, it will be Fred Johnson stepping into a starting role. He saw some playing time at right tackle earlier this year in Lane Johnson's absence, playing 110 total snaps in Week 3 and 4. He will have a big role in the next four weeks to get the struggling Eagles offense back on track.
