Eagles Get Big Update on Injured Starter After Week 6 Win
By Jovan Alford
The Philadelphia Eagles' offense was finally back at full strength on Sunday after not having Lane Johnson, A.J. Brown, and DeVonta Smith in their final game (Tampa Bay) before their Week 5 bye.
With the Eagles’ offense back at full strength, Jalen Hurts and Co. played a solid game as Philly won 20-16 over the Cleveland Browns. However, even though the Eagles grabbed the win, they lost one of their Pro Bowl offensive linemen.
Star left tackle Jordan Mailata suffered a hamstring injury in the fourth quarter and had to be carted back to the locker room. Mailata was spotted with crutches after the game, which is never a good sign.
On Monday, Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni provided a less-than-ideal update on the starting offensive lineman.
According to ESPN’s Tim McManus, Sirianni said it “looks like Jordan [Mailata] is going to be out a couple of weeks.”
The Eagles hope Mailata is only out for a couple of weeks, but it might be more than that as he’s dealing with a hamstring. When Mailata left the game yesterday, Fred Johnson took over at left tackle.
Fred Johnson is the Eagles’ swing tackle as fans saw him step in at right tackle when (Lane) Johnson suffered a concussion in Week 3 and missed Week 4.
Additionally, reporters asked Sirianni if Mehki Becton could move to left tackle due to Mailata’s injury. The Eagles head coach said “Everything is on the table,” per Jeff Kerr of CBS Sports.
Even though Mailata will be out for a couple of weeks, the Eagles are 3.5-point road favorites over the New York Giants in Week 7 on DraftKings Sportsbook.
