Eagles Send Strong Message to Haters With Surprise Decision at Practice
By Cem Yolbulan
Despite winning nine straight games and looking like a Super Bowl contender, the Philadelphia Eagles were embroiled in needless drama all week. Following their Week 14 win over the Panthers, star wide receiver AJ Brown called the team's passing attack out. This was seen as a shot at Jalen Hurts after a game where the Eagles offense looked poor. As is often the case with Philadelphia sports, it was blown out of proportion, dominating the airwaves.
With their statements during the week, Hurts and Brown threw cold water on the drama. The Eagles are now focused on the task at hand, defeating the Steelers on Sunday and continuing their chase for the top seed in the playoffs.
To prove that the beef is officially over, the Eagles had immaculate vibes in Friday's practice. In fact, to send a message to the rest of the league, there was a very intentional song choice. As ESPN's Tim McManus reported, the Eagles made a very conscious decision to play "My Prerogative" by Bobby Brown in the portion of practice open to media.
Eagles Send Strong Message to Haters With Song Choice at Practice
One of the hottest R&B songs since its release in 1988, "My Prerogative" has become the anthem for people trying to make their own decisions in their life without the judgment of others. The lyrics, "Everybody's talking all this stuff about me. Why don't they just let me live? I don't need permission, make my own decisions" clearly show why some Eagles players may have chosen the track.
It is important to note that this drama was mostly created by AJ Brown's needless comments after the game. This could have been easily avoidable if the Eagles stars were a little better at keeping things inside the locker room.
At this point, there is no reason to look back. It's a good sign that the team is having a good time with it, proving that it is officially water under the bridge.
