With mandatory minicamp starting next week, the Philadelphia Eagles are continuing to make changes to their 90-man roster. During this time of the year, the 90-man roster is fluid as teams try to find players they believe could compete for a spot on the 53-man or practice squad.
On Friday, the Eagles added an intriguing running back to their backfield, who was just taken in the 2024 NFL Draft.
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Eagles claimed former Jacksonville Jaguars running back Keilan Robinson. The Jaguars released the second-year running back earlier this week.
Eagles Claimed RB Keilan Robinson on Friday
Robinson is joining a crowded Eagles’ backfield that features Saquon Barkley, A.J. Dillon, Will Shipley, ShunDerrick Powell, Montrell Johnson Jr., and Lew Nichols.
Barkley, Dillon, and Shipley’s spots are already locked in, leaving Robinson to battle with the three other running backs for a chance to make the 53-man or taxi squad. The 25-year-old Robinson was taken in the fifth round of last year’s draft.
The 5-foot-8 running back appeared in six games last season, predominantly playing special teams. Robinson had two kick returns for 34 yards.
With the Jaguars changing their GM and head coach, Robinson was the odd man out in the backfield, especially after Jacksonville drafted two running backs in the 2025 draft.
Robinson played college football at the University of Alabama and the University of Texas. With the Longhorns, Robinson established himself as one of the better return specialists in the Big 12.
The 5-foot-8 playmaker averaged 24.2 yards per kickoff return in his three seasons at Texas, ranking him eighth all-time in school history. He was also named an honorable mention All-Big 12 selection in 2022.
That said, the Washington D.C. native should not be overlooked for his skills as a running back, as he averaged 6.6 yards per carry and 9.5 yards per reception in 45 career games. However, his path to making the Eagles’ roster later this summer could come through special teams.
