The Philadelphia Eagles are in the midst of another playoff push and are in control of winning their second straight NFC East title. With the attention staying on the remainder of the 2025 season, the eyes on the offseason have started to pick up.
The Eagles will have several players hit the free agent market, and one of them is tight end Dallas Goedert. And the NFL's latest TE extension took a potential option off the block for the Eagles. According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the Texans and tight end Brevin Jordan agreed to terms on a one-year extension. Jordan was out for the 2025 season due to a torn ACL, but Houston wanted him back for next season.
Although there were no reports that the Eagles would target Jordan, it's just one less option available at tight end, which is shaping up to be a bleak class.
Brevin Jordan Extension Deals Huge Blow to Eagles' TE Outlook
Back on Wednesday, Mark Andrews and the Baltimore Ravens agreed on a three-year, $39.3 million extension, taking one potential Goedert replacement off the board. Fast forward to Sunday, when Washington Commanders and former Eagles tight end Zach Ertz tore his ACL in Week 14, which could end his career, as well as the chances of a Philly reunion.
Throw in Jordan being off the market, and that could make things more difficult for Philadelphia to find a tight end if Goedert leaves town.
The 30-year-old playmaker is slated to hit unrestricted free agency in March, and there's no telling what his future will hold. He's spent the past eight years with the Birds and provided them with an athletic pass catcher who holds his own in terms of blocking. In 104 career games with Philadelphia, the South Dakota State product has notched 389 catches (532 targets) for 4,488 receiving yards and 31 touchdowns. This season, he currently leads the team in receiving touchdowns (7), being a reliable outlet for quarterback Jalen Hurts.
But if he does hit the open market, Goedert will certainly have suitors that could outprice the Eagles. He's a Super Bowl champion with the skillset to be impactful in multiple different offenses. He's playing on a one-year, fully guaranteed $10 million contract and might be looking for one final payday now that he's in his 30s. As much as Eagles fans want to run things back, a deal of that magnitude would eat up a large chunk of the team's projected $25 million cap space, per Spotrac.
Unfortunately, the Eagles' internal Goedert replacements aren't exactly exciting. Kylen Granson and Grant Calcaterra haven't been producing and are also pending free agents, leaving Cameron Latu — who's only seen 4.9 offensive snaps per game — as the only TE under contract next season.
If the Eagles don't re-sign Goedert, the best options in the free agent market include Kyle Pitts or David Njoku. Other players that will be available are Taysom Hill, Tyler Higbee, Austin Hooper, and Tyler Conklin. The latter options aren't exciting, showcasing how bare the tight end market could be.
If Goedert, in fact, leaves Philly following this season, the best option to improve that area will come in the NFL draft or via a trade. We are months away from this being a possibility, but it's never too early for the Eagles to start thinking about the future of their TE room.
