Eagles Playmaker Hurt Himself With OTAs Performance

One Philadelphia WR has struggled to stand out this offseason.

The Philadelphia Eagles are officially on a five-week hiatus before their offseason schedule resumes with July's training camp. Head coach Nick Sirianni & Co.'s organized team activities (OTAs) and mandatory minicamp went off without a hitch, leaving Eagles fans confident in the potential of another Super Bowl run next season.

Although the early offseason workouts went well, for the most part, certain Eagles players failed to prove themselves to Sirianni's coaching staff, whether they're new to Philly or returning for another season. That includes one young playmaker who likely hurt himself with his OTA performance (or lack thereof).

Eagles WR Elijah Cooks Hurt Himself With Poor OTA Performance

Despite what his name might employ, Elijah Cooks has been doing anything but cooking this spring.

Cooks is one of a handful of Eagles who's largely been invisible this offseason. Philadelphia fans are still waiting for the former San Jose State product to show a glimpse of life after he was signed to the practice squad in January followed by a future/reserve contract exactly one month later.

Cooks made his way to Philly following a failed stint with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Santa Maria, CA native only posted three catches for 38 receiving yards in 11 outings across his two seasons in Jacksonville, and Eagles fans were hoping a fresh start with the defending Super Bowl Champions would motivate him this offseason.

Instead of stepping up in the Jalen Hurts-led offense, Cooks has flown under the radar to the point that some fans probably forget he's still on the roster. He sat on the sidelines throughout the voluntary OTAs, and things didn't change when Tuesday's mandatory minicamp arrived as he missed that, too, for undisclosed reasons, per NBC Sports Philadelphia's Dave Zangaro.

Cooks now heads into the next five weeks without giving the Eagles' coaching staff anything to think about. His fight to crack the 53-man roster was already an uphill battle with fellow wideouts A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, Jahan Dotson, Johnny Wilson, Terrace Marshall Jr., and Ainias Smith all ahead of him on the depth chart. Now, Cooks' chances of entering the mix are likely even worse.

It'll be up to Cooks to make an immediate impact once training camp begins if he stays on the roster that long. Spotrac lists the Eagles potentially saving $960,000 if they trade or cut him this offseason, allowing them to replace Cooks with someone more likely to participate.

With Sirianni needing all of his players to be all-in to chase another Super Bowl title, it's hard to imagine the underwhelming Eagles WR lasting around for much longer.
