Eagles Must Prepare for Coach's Departure After Latest Report
By Cem Yolbulan
The Philadelphia Eagles righted the ship after an underwhelming start to the season, winning five in a row to improve to 7-2. A big part of this successful stretch has been the improvement on the offensive side of the ball. The Eagles put up at least 28 points in each of their last four games and are currently a top-ten offense both in terms of points and yards for the season.
Offensive coordinator Kellen Moore has rightfully gotten the lion's share of credit. In his first year in the role for the Eagles, Moore has turned this offensive unit into one of the most dynamic groups in the league.
Unfortunately, however, the Eagles may be the victims of Moore's success. In fact, the 36-year-old coach is already getting mentioned as a potential head coaching candidate as soon as next offseason. Conor Orr of Sports Illustrated identified top targets for teams that will be looking for head coaches in the spring and beyond. Moore was on that long list.
"Moore has been an offensive coordinator for six years across three teams and has finished in the top 10 in scoring four times. His passing offense led the league in total yardage twice, and he has four top-10 finishes in net yards per attempt. Moore, a former NFL quarterback, has interviewed well for head coaching jobs in the past with the Chargers, Broncos and Panthers. "
This is Moore's sixth year as an offensive coordinator in the league. He was able to find success with the Chargers and the Cowboys before joining Philadelphia. In 2021, the Cowboys under him had the best offense in the league. He has had top-ten units on three more occasions, including this season.
When you have sustained success in different situations and environments, it is only natural to be a highly sought-after candidate. Whether the Eagles will be able to retain him past this season remains to be seen but it is certainly getting more difficult with each passing week.
