Eagles Make Last-Minute Trade to Fix Major Defensive Issue in Deadline Projection
The Philadelphia Eagles are 5-2 on the season and are winners of three straight games. They have hit a gear coming out of their bye and are looking to be Super Bowl contenders.
The trade deadline is on Nov. 5, so teams have a limited time left to execute any deals. General Manager Howie Roseman has always been someone who isn't afraid to make a move.
The Eagles' lack of a consistent pass rusher has been a glaring need in 2024 and they could use another presence up front. One player who they should target is Calais Campbell.
The Miami Dolphins are 2-5 on the season and could be sellers at the trade deadline. Campbell is a player on an expiring deal and could fetch some solid value. He joined the Dolphins on a one-year, $2 million and is still effective at 38-years-old.
Jordan Davis lines up along the interior but doesn't bring much juice as a pass-rusher (3.5 career sacks). Campbell could solve that problem while also being a stout run defender. The six-time Pro Bowler has 22 total tackles, seven tackles for loss, two sacks, and three pass deflections in 2024.
In addition, he's fifth among defensive linemen in overall grade (86.4) and third among defensive linemen in run defense grade (78.7) per PFF.
The Eagles should send over a 2025 fifth-round pick in exchange for Campbell to get them a veteran and disruptive defensive lineman.
This is a small price to pay to land another impactful defender. Roseman has done a great job putting this team together. They want to make a deep postseason run, and getting a player who has 15 career playoff games under his belt could go a long way. Campbell could also provide young guys like Jalen Carter and Davis with a mentor.
