Eagles Make Highly Anticipated Move for Star WR in Latest Projected Trade
By Cem Yolbulan
After a slow start to the season, the Philadelphia Eagles found their footing and won three straight to improve to 5-2. With the November 5 trade deadline right around the corner, fans are expecting one more move to help get the Eagles to the next level for the second half of the season.
One of the areas of improvement is the wide receiver rotation. Despite the addition of Jahan Dotson in the offseason, Philadelphia is still too dependent on the production of A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, and Saquon Barkley. The WR depth behind Smith and Brown is particularly concerning as Dotson has been a very disappointing player for the Eagles so far this season.
Through seven games, Dotson has six catches for 35 yards and no touchdowns. The other options at receiver, Johnny Wilson and Ainias Smith don't instill much confidence in the fanbase. As a result, the team has been playing a lot of two tight-end sets but it's clear that one more wideout is needed.
One name that Jimmy Kempski from PhillyVoice threw out there was Adam Thielen of the Carolina Panthers. A potential trade construction that looks as follows makes a lot of sense for both sides.
Thielen has been on the IR list since Week 3, but he is close to making his return. Last year, he managed to have a 1,000+ yard season despite playing with rookie Bryce Young in one of the most dysfunctional offenses in the league. On a team with two elite receivers, the 34-year-old could look even more effective.
The Panthers are 1-7 and already traded away Diontae Johnson earlier this week. They have no reason to keep Thielen going forward. An intriguing young player like Eli Ricks and a late-round pick should be enough to acquire the two-time Pro Bowler.
Historically, GM Howie Roseman has been active at the deadline. We can reasonably expect a similar approach this time around. He will certainly leave no stone unturned. This Thielen deal could be worth a look.
