Eagles Land Best Pass-Rusher on the Market in Latest Projected Trade
The Philadelphia Eagles have found a spark lately and are playing well right now. They've won three games in a row and now have a 5-2 record on the season. Philadelphia is taking on the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday and has a chance to improve to 6-2.
Although the Eagles have a talented roster, they could use more juice along the defensive line. Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox wrote an article listing multiple players on the trade block. In that piece, he named Cleveland's Za'Darius Smith as a trade target and had the Eagles as a potential destination.
The Eagles have 20 team sacks on the year but don't have any player with more than three sacks individually.
Landing Smith in exchange for a fifth-round pick would be a great trade for Philadelphia.
Smith is playing on a two-year, $23.5 million deal but only has a $5.2 million cap hit in 2024 and a $9.4 million cap hit in 2025.
The Kentucky product is able to win with power and generate consistent pressure in the backfield. This season, the 32-year-old has five sacks, 24 total pressures and 19 hurries. Adding a veteran difference-maker to the defensive line would be a massive win for Philadelphia.
As the season continues to progress, the need for consistent pass rushers goes a long way. The best teams in the league have multiple pass rushers, and Smith would provide the Eagles with a disruptor.
In his career, he has 212 solo tackles, 65 sacks, and 10 forced fumbles. GM Howie Roseman isn't afraid to make moves to improve the roster and this is one he should consider.
