The Eagles are getting set for a critical Week 17 showdown with the Cowboys but unfortunately, it sounds like star QB Jalen Hurts won't be able to suit up.

He suffered a concussion in last week's loss to the Commanders and didn't practice all week. Head coach Nick Sirianni spoke to the media on Friday, essentially confirming that Pickett would be under center.

Pickett is dealing with his own rib injury, though clarified that he'd be ready to go if needed. Considering what's at stake in playoff seeding and that the postseason is right around the corner, Hurts' ailment is a major storyline to watch that should concern Philadelphia fans.

Nick Sirianni Suggests Eagles QB Jalen Hurts Won't Play vs. Cowboys

"It's going to be tough for him to make it," Sirianni said about Hurts' availability. This is a sneakily massive spot for the Eagles, taking on a Cowboys squad that's won four of its last five games.

Philadelphia has the No. 2 seed in the NFC right now. However, the Commanders still have a chance to catch the Eagles in the division. It's unlikely, but losing to both the Cowboys and Giants would open the door for Washington to steal the NFC East crown.

Pickett's track record is mediocre at best, having completed just 58.3% of his passes with a TD and interception against the Commanders. The Cowboys have nothing to play for but didn't last week either and still came away with a victory against the playoff-bound Buccaneers.

Losing Hurts is a massive loss, so expect the Eagles to lean heavily on Saquon Barkley and the defense. Concussions don't typically keep players out for multiple weeks but it's certainly possible, and Philadelphia has to be careful to ensure Hurts is available for the playoffs.

FanDuel Sportsbook still has the Eagles as seven-point favorites over the Cowboys. They have the second-best odds (+300) to win the NFC, so oddsmakers still believe in the team. Even still, Hurts' injury is an important situation to monitor.
