The Philadelphia Eagles enter Week 2 with plenty to overcome as injuries have started to pile up on both sides of the ball ahead of this Sunday's Super Bowl rematch against the Kansas City Chiefs.

After leading the team in targets and receptions in their Week 1 victory over the Dallas Cowboys, starting tight end Dallas Goedert is reportedly dealing with a sprained knee. Thursday marked the second consecutive day that a knee injury has forced the veteran to miss practice, per NBC Sports' Dave Zangaro, making his availability for Week 2 even more of a question mark than it was a few days ago.

Eagles Now Likely to Be Without Starting TE Dallas Goedert in Week 2

With Goedert, for all intents and purposes, seeming destined to miss Sunday's game at Arrowhead Stadium, he joins the growing list of Eagles who are already battling the injury bug after just one game. It's a list of injured Eagles enough to make fans do a double-take:

  • Landon Dickerson, G, Status: Questionable (Back)
  • Jalyx Hunt, LB, Status: Questionable (Hip)
  • Tanner McKee, QB, Status: Questionable (Right thumb)
  • Will Shipley, RB, Status: Questionable (Ribs)
  • Dallas Goedert, TE, Status: Questionable (knee)

This injury report doesn't even take into account that starting fullback Ben VanSumeren is already on the injured reserve with a torn patella tendon. Nor does it include the fact that, despite AJ Brown suiting up and giving it his best effort, Philly's star playmaker still appears to be hampered by the hamstring injury that sidelined him during the preseason.

None of this is to say that the Eagles aren't capable of winning games against top-level competition without those players available, or competing at less than 100%. It is undeniable, though, that having that many key pieces of the puzzle already dinged up with injuries isn't the most desirable place for a roster to be entering Week 2.

A tight end is considered the safety blanket for quarterbacks for a reason. Goedert was clearly a key target during Week 1, and assuming he is unable to play this weekend, offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo will need to figure out another way to move the ball up and down the field against a high-powered Chiefs offense.
