The Philadelphia Eagles won a Super Bowl last season and a big reason was Jalen Hurts. Hurts’s stats didn’t look great, throwing for 2,903 yards, 18 touchdowns and five interceptions, but he did a tremendous job when called upon, adding another 221 yards and a pair of touchdowns while winning MVP honors in February’s Super Bowl win over the Kansas City Chiefs.

But even with a ring, Hurts has plenty of doubters heading into the 2025 season. That noise will figure to get louder after Wednesday’s joint practice with the Cleveland Browns where Hurts tossed three interceptions and some are wondering if there is some rust to knock off before the Sept. 4 opener against the Dallas Cowboys.

Jalen Hurts Makes Several Mistakes in Joint Practice vs. Browns

NBC Sports Philadelphia’s John Clark reported that Hurts started Wednesday’s practice on a tough note, throwing an interception to cornerback Myles Harden in a 1-on-1 drill. According to WIP’s Eliot Shorr-Parks, Hurts completed just 3-of-6 passes and tossed his second interception of the day to Browns linebacker Devin Bush.

Clark also documented the final pick, which came when Hurts threw an interception to a Browns defensive back roughly an hour later. Shorr-Parks added another near-INT happened close to the end of the session.

With Hurts throwing interceptions like a bad game of Madden, it’s easy for Philadelphia fans to panic about their quarterback. But there were also a few good moments including touchdown passes to DeVonta Smith and AJ Dillon.

This may be the ebbs and flows of a training camp practice. Hurts was extremely careful with the football last season, cutting his interceptions down from 15 interceptions to just five last season. His interception percentage also dropped from 2.8% in 2023 to 1.4% last season, but a lot of that may have had to do with Kellen Moore at offensive coordinator.

Mond has since left to become the head coach of the New Orleans Saints and Kevin Patullo was a questionable replacement with no prior play-calling experience and his close relationship with head coach Nick Sirianni.

Perhaps Hurts has to work out the kinks of working with a new offensive coordinator. Or maybe he just had a really bad day at practice. Either way, having a bad day when another team comes to town is enough to sound the alarm and give his doubters more ammunition as the season draws near.
