The Philadelphia Eagles are traveling to play the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 2. Despite picking up in the win over the Cowboys in Week 1, there are still questions about whether Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter will face disciplinary action after spitting on quarterback Dak Prescott.
While he awaits the league to make a decision, head coach Nick Sirianni spoke to the media on Monday and said the Eagles will be dealing with Carter internally (h/t @PHLEaglesNation). But at the same time, it doesn't seem like fans will know what any discipline will look like, as Sirianni said, "regardless of if you see it on Sunday or not.”
Eagles Seeming Let Jalen Carter Off Easy for Spitting on Dak Prescott
It doesn't appear that Carter will be suspended by the NFL and will likely be fined instead. Whatever the Eagles decide to do with Carter is something they plan to keep close to the chest. Meanwhile, Sirianni's comments didn't make it seem like the Georgia product will be sidelined against the Chiefs.
The fact that the Eagles HC said, "regardless of if you see it or not," is pretty telling. It seems that Sirianni is letting it be known that Carter will be on the field. If the team planned on keeping him sidelined for the contest or even benched for a quarter, half, or drive, Sirianni's comments would have sounded more convincing.
In other words, Carter will be on the gridiron this weekend and likely play a significant amount of snaps in this Super Bowl rematch.
The Eagles know that Carter is one of their best defensive players, and not having him out there is a big hit to that defense. Even though Philadelphia defeated Dallas, they missed having Carter's presence out there.
Moro Ojomo and Jordan Davis played the majority of the snaps at defensive tackle in Week 1. Ojomo finished with a 55.7 overall grade on Pro Football Focus, while Davis logged a 71.4 overall grade. The duo was far from horrible, but the Eagles want the pair of Carter and Davis to be the ones wreaking havoc in the interior.
Whatever the Eagles decide to do with Carter will be kept confidential. It doesn't seem like he will miss time on the field, and frankly, that's what fans care about the most. Whether he has to pay a fine or has some extra practice gassers to run, Philly fans want him ready to roll on gamedays.
