The Philadelphia Eagles defense suffered a huge loss in the secondary on Sunday as rookie cornerback Quinyon Mitchell exited the game against the Los Angeles Rams with a shoulder injury.

The standout rookie defender did not return to the contest, as the team ruled him out to start the second half. Without Mitchell on the field, Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio had to lean on veteran Isaiah Rodgers, who got picked on by the Rams QB Matthew Stafford.

However, Rodgers had a huge play in the second half as he recovered a fumble and returned it for 40 yards, giving the Eagles’ offense great field position.

With a rematch on the horizon against the Washington Commanders, the Eagles and their fans hope that Mitchell can play. Mitchell provided an optimistic update on his injury, which will excite the Philly fanbase.

Eagles News: Quinyon Mitchell Is Fine After Suffering Shoulder Injury

According to Olivia Reiner of the Philadelphia Inquirer, Mitchell told her he’s “fine” and said, “No, I’m going to be good,” when asked about any long-term injury concerns.

If the Eagles want to get back to the Super Bowl, they need to have a healthy Mitchell playing opposite Darius Slay in the secondary. During the regular season, Mitchell has played like an established vet, despite being a rookie.

The 23-year-old defensive back recorded 46 combined tackles and 12 pass deflections. Mitchell shined in pass coverage, allowing a 54.7 completion percentage on targets, an 87.2 pass rating allowed when targeted, and only gave up three receiving touchdowns.

The former Toledo defensive back played well in the first matchup against the Commanders, not allowing a completion on two targets. However, he gave up three completions on four targets and a touchdown in the second matchup.
