Eagles Get Big Update on Injured Starter at Friday's Practice
The Philadelphia Eagles will need all hands on deck when they meet the Los Angeles Rams for Sunday's Division Round showdown at Lincoln Financial Field.
Several key Eagles players are banged up and dealing with other issues before this weekend's action begins, including tight end Dallas Goedert. The veteran pass-catcher was absent from Thursday's practice with an illness, leaving Philadelphia fans wondering if Goedert will be healthy enough to face the Rams at home.
Fortunately, Nick Sirianni's squad received an encouraging update regarding the sickly TE just one day later.
Eagles Injury News: Dallas Goedert Returns to Practice on Friday
With the Division Round matchup just over 48 hours away, PHLY's Zach Berman is reporting that Goedert was a participant during Friday's practice session. Unless his situation takes an unexpected turn, it looks like the 30-year-old pass-catcher will be playing on Sunday.
It's the time of the year when illnesses run rampant around professional sports leagues. Although Goedert might not be completely recovered, it looks like he avoided the worst-case scenario this time around.
Goedert played a crucial role in the Eagles' 22-10 win over the Green Bay Packers on Wild Card Weekend. The ex-South Dakota State TE finished the game with 47 receiving yards and a touchdown on four catches. It was another example of his stepping up when Philadelphia needed him the most, further proven by his 39-394-4 stat line in nine career playoff games.
Hopefully, Goedert remains healthy for the rest of the Eagles' playoff run. The Britton, SD native was limited to a career-low 10 regular-season appearances, which includes missing the majority of December on injured reserve with a knee issue. He finished Year 7 with 496 yards and two TDs on 42 catches.
Sunday's collision offers Goedert one of the juiciest possible matchups. The Rams were horrendous at defending TEs during the regular season, allowing 106 receptions (T-2nd-most), 1,101 receiving yards (4th-most), and seven TDs (T-8th-most) to the position.
Assuming he's healthy, Goedert is in a great spot to help the Eagles advance to the NFC Championship Game. After all, Philadelphia's -275 moneyline odds to win on FanDuel Sportsbook carry an implied probability of 73.3%.
